The Dorchester County Dems held a forum on:
Mitigating Climate Change in Maryland:
Focus on the Eastern Shore

As rising water threatens communities across the Eastern Shore, the Maryland legislature has enacted some of the nation's most ambitious targets for reducing greenhouse gases.  The Climate Solutions Now Act (CSNA) went into effect in 2022. It calls for Maryland to reduce greenhouse gases by 60% (compared to a 2006 baseline) by 2031 and to reach net-zero emissions by 2045.

The CSNA also establishes policies to achieve these targets, including shifting buildings away from fossil fuels for heating; electrifying the state vehicle fleet; strengthening our grid for renewable energy; and much more. Forty percent of program funds will be spent on communities that have been impacted by environmental justice issues.

On August 2nd, Cambridge resident and environmental advocate Susan Olsen offered a presentation on the workings and requirements of this ambitious legislation. In addition to being an active member of Dorchester's Democratic community, Susan serves on the Board of the Lower Eastern Shore Group of the Sierra Club.
